Mon manège à moi.

Micheline tells the story...

We have tried to record 15 beautiful French chansons as personally as possible by giving each song a refined and deeper interpretation. And that during a live concert, so super honest. The result is a captivating hour full of emotion and passion, recorded in one take in the LUX hall in Nijmegen filled with a full enthusiastic audience.

Recently, there has been no purely live recording at all.
But…what you hear is what you get: there is no fiddling with applause, wrong notes or pitches.

This first teaser will not be released for nothing on October 9 with the song Je m’en remets à toi.
Jacques Brel wrote the lyrics in the early 1960s with Edith Piaf in mind. He was just unable to give her his song, Piaf had already started singing for the stars (she died on October 10, 1963).

This is a gift from Bruno Brel, Jacques' nephew.
He said "Micheline, there are not many people who know this beautiful chanson, you have to bring it on stage. Jacques wrote it together with Charles Dumont, who also composed 'Mon Dieu' and 'Non, je ne regrette rien' for Piaf. Sing it to the world!" The translation of Je m'en remets à toi is 'I give myself over to you'. Thank you Bruno for this unique gift.

On this CD we go for authenticity and craftsmanship. The choice of songs is both familiar and surprising and some originals: Aznavour, Gainsbourg, Trenet, Yves Montand... Your musicians at your service are: the Flemish polyglot Micheline together with Guus Westdorp, master pianist who has worked with Ramses Shaffy and Toon Hermans, Jan den Boer, our support and silent force on double bass, and Rob Sprinkhuizen who touches the playful drums with a lot of percussion.

 About Micheline

The Flemish Micheline Van Hautem is considered one of Europe's best chansonnières.

That started in 2001 with the successful album Songs of Jacques Brel (more than 20,000 copies sold). Concerts in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, New Zealand, Australia and the United States soon followed.
At the renowned Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Micheline made a big impression during several editions and was awarded the prestigious Herald Angel Award.
She has been the darling of the public and the press there for years:

‘This, in a nutshell, is five-star quality entertainment’ (The Scotsman) | 'Bewitchingly, full-strength Van Hautem' (The Herald Scotland) | 'Mesmerizing performance' (Edinburgh Spotlight) | 'Fantastically engaging' (Broadway Baby) | ‘A thoroughly enjoyable show' (One4Review).

Guus Westdorp is a musician, owner of Nederland Studio's and initiator of Blauwe Podium. He has worked as a pianist and singer since 1985. Since the 1990s he has established his name in the Dutch and foreign music world as a composer and arranger. Currently, Guus Westdorp is active as a vocal coach in addition to his performances and he facilitates audio productions in his Nederland Studio's in Delft. Guus Westdorp performed in Carnegie Hall (NYC) with Olivia Stevens (S), was a pianist with Toon Hermans and Liesbeth List and wrote 'Blijf bij mij' for Paul de Leeuw & Ruth Jacott. Rob Sprinkhuizen
After playing punk, blues, latin, funk, soul and jive in various bands, Rob decided to study jazz at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. As a professional jazz drummer, he played in the idiosyncratic jazz trio Sprinkhuizen Fennis & Didderen. He also played in various theater performances (including Sjaak Bral, Guus Westdorp and Micheline Van Hautem). His style can be defined as swinging, inventive and narrative with a touch of humor.
